Suffolk County’s Long Island Symphonic Choral Association (LISCA) was founded by Gregg Smith in 1968 when he was at Stony Brook University. Despite moving to the New York City area, Mr. Smith maintained his 40-plus year devotion to LISCA, traveling to Suffolk County on Tuesday evenings to rehearse the group. Under his guidance, LISCA developed into a seasoned adult chorus noted for its fine intonation and blend, and for imaginative programming that is Mr. Smith’s hallmark. The group’s repertory ranges from the Renaissance masters to the avant garde, and includes premieres of many works of contemporary composers. LISCA has performed in New York City concert halls, and the chorus has toured and performed in Finland, Eastern Europe, Spain, France, England, Iceland, Ireland, Argentina, Italy, and the Baltic States.
